Kaiser Permanente, Washington
Interior Rebrand Strategy
Graphic Kit-of-Parts
Environmental Graphics
Kaiser Permanente aquired Group Health in Washington and sought to refresh and rebrand the interior experience of a diverse series of building types built in different eras and designed by different architecture firms—into a unified group of 30 clinics. Our NBBJ EGD team developed a kit-of-parts strategy that included a system of over 110 unique graphics that could then be customized with color and paired with paint and furniture to create a consistent, yet unique experience within each facility.

The defining principal of the Kaiser graphic aesthetic is a synergy of art and nature combined with a vibrant color harmony rooted in the essence of the PNW.

We targeted the arrival experience and main circulation paths at each site, creating a standarized approach that included a panoramic proportion recessed graphic niche with a concealed light fixture to wash the graphics. Graphics are printed on an eco-friendly (non-pvc) wallcovering, a sustainable alternative to traditional vinyl graphics.
Indigenous artist Jaque Fragua developed colorful geometric graphic concept and painted murals for Seattl’s Capitol Hill facility. We worked closely with him to map out graphic opportunities and align the color palette to paints that felt akin to the rest of the Kaiser facilities.
